A New Showreel for 2020!

Check out our new Showreel! Every video production company needs a video showreel! But what do you put in it? What do you leave out? How long should it be? Who is actually gonna watch it? In the past, we’ve gone down the 2 or 3 minute route, but this time we decided to do something a bit different, instead of a showreel, a showblast. Something which hopefully will get folks to dig a bit further, a hook! Instead of a showreel, a showblast! 49 seconds of rapid fire content from loads of projects and brands over the last year…

Lean + Agile = Video success!

Lean+Agile is the answer for a successful video strategy. For agile to work, you need to understand the dynamics associated with agile, understand how those dynamics will or won’t work in your business, and the wasteful and bad practices that your existing structure embraces. Going through the motions won’t bring the advantages of agile to a business, and may just embed bad practice in a new structure. So how do you ensure that when you go agile,  you get rid of your bad legacy practices? Agile isn’t good enough on its own. You also need to adopt lean production methods, to root…

Quality Counts, don’t be fooled.

Its often said that any video is better than no video.     But with video now endemic across the internet this idea is not just obsolete, but dangerous, as the quality of the video becomes a key differentiator. Viewers are no longer naive, their expectations have evolved to become much more nuanced. They can tell the difference between amateur video, and video which reflects a brands values. So the quality we output must match the quality of the brand.   If you don’t get the quality right, you introduce a dissonance into the viewer, as brand expectations fail to match experiences.…

Top ten considerations for using a drone in your video.

What do you need to consider before using a drone for a video production?   Drones are great, adding real production value to a video, and everyone likes that! Check out our latest aerial  showreel!   But there is quite a bit that needs to be considered before a drone can be used in a video production.   1) I won’t bang on about this, as it smacks of self justification, but if you’re a business, you must use a CAA licensed operator. If you’re an agency sourcing aerial footage from your client be aware! UK broadcasters are now checking that footage they…

Is the Voice Over dead?

Voice Overs have for years been the way to carry a narrative through a corporate or online video.   But with 85% of Facebook videos being played with the audio off,  Voice Overs are now going almost unheard on the main social media platforms. The most common way to replace the voice over is text captions or subtitles, simply adding them to the video. But text captions are actually very difficult to read, often forcing the viewer to make a choice between the captions and the visual content. And if we use the automated captioning that some platforms provide, these captions…

This codec is almost universally useable,  but on some older legacy systems issues may be encountered. Our system also provides customers with the option of downloading smaller versions of their videos,  in particular there is an option to download an “HD 1080p” mp4 version, which has a much smaller file size,  whilst still providing  excellent quality. Whilst the “Original” version is directly suitable for use on…

Flip the classroom with training videos

Flipping the classroom with video  brings the lecture home, and the homework into class. Training Videos are revolutionising teaching by delivering lessons to students at their convenience,  allowing educators to use the classroom to reinforce learning with practical lessons and tuition, a learning method called “Flipping the Classroom”. This “Flipped Classroom” model of teaching allows trainers to deliver more meaningful and in depth content than would be possible using traditional teaching methods. Video content is at the heart of the flipped classroom. This can take many forms, from a simple video of a lecture, to a full green screen production video, depending on…

Will 2018 be the year of Agile?

As 2018 opens more people are seeing the value of Agile in digital content and video production.     In their New Year’s blogging, Creative Bloq identified “Minimal Viable Product” (MVP)  as the number one trend in digital in 2018. MVP is a set of principles which abandons the “Big Bang”, embraces iterations and lean production, and mirrors our Agile production methods. But when we think of MVP we think of maximum value instead of minimal viable, because MVP is actually the optimal way of producing video. Agile has allowed us to increase the quality of our property videos, as well as reducing turnaround…
