They never use the best picture! (Part 2)

When shooting a feature I am always looking for a central image that the rest of the work can be built around. A “Page Holder” in the parlance.

In reality I do feel a bit out of sorts when I return without IMO a central key portfolio image..

We have posted about the results in the Indy of last month’s Cheese feature, but I thought that I would show everyone the picture that they didn’t use… the “Page Holder” as it were…

The picture they didnt use!
The Cheese picture they didnt use.....

I really wanted that romantic cheese shot of the rows of Stiltons and La Grande Fromage testing his wares, but of course in a modern factory it tends to be less Romance, more Clinic……

So despite the softbox for the front light, and the remote second backlight, the big depth of field with the cheese testing thingy and the stacks of Stiltons, lovingly recorded and with great patience on behalf of Le Grand Fromage… it ended up on the spike….

Instead they used the quick shot with one light that the journalist suggested…. (Correctly as it turned out this time!) Less interesting for me, but more romantic…. in a sort of cheesy whey….

For you pixel peepers those are on a 5dmk2, with the 17-40L… lighting is 580ex with umbrella boxes and pulsar slaves…
