Enter the Fuji!

For many years we have produced our photography on Canon cameras. But last year,  I made the decision to change my system to Fuji X. Changing camera systems is a big deal for a photographer. You not only have a major investment capitol wise,  but also emotionally.  With regular use the camera becomes an extension,  and you grow used to the organic nature of the images a system produces. Which is why this is only the third time I have changed systems in my entire career. But time moves on, and Canon being a very conservative company, have been slow…

Photographing the World’s Most Exclusive Speakers.

Product photography doesn’t get more exclusive than this…     Product photography doesn’t come more challenging or breathtaking than photographing the world’s most expensive set of speakers.   Hand made right here in Nottingham, The Vox series of speakers from Living Voice are quite simply the most exclusive and exceptional pieces of audio equipment available world wide.    Half a Million pounds worth of speakers on set.   They are coveted by the audiophile, but only possessed by those of extraordinary means,  with a price depending on finish, of around £450,000 for a set. This price reflects not only the extraordinary quality of their…

5 tips for a great corporate portrait shoot!

Five top tips for an excellent corporate portrait photography session!     Creating a great corporate portrait takes more than just showing up and smiling on command.  Check out our five top tips for having a great session. 1) Location, location, location! No matter the photography style you want to go for, you need enough space for your portrait photographer to work, as well as the right conditions. Avoid spaces which can’t be kept at a normal room temperature (keep the sweaty look for the gym!) Avoid rooms where there are too many windows which the photographer will have to shoot…

Architecture photography at the Newshouse.

Pub Architecture photography in Nottingham     After 20 years of being a Nottingham photographer, there really shouldn’t be anything left for me to discover! So, I was nicely surprised when I visited, for the first time, The Newshouse pub on Canal Street. We had an urgent call from a national newspaper for some architecture photography to accompany an article about the Nottingham pub, as it is considered an outstanding example of a post war pub by Historic England. Now, normally of course you have a bit of notice for architecture photography, so you can pick your weather, scout it out,…

A great way to use still photography in a video!

Using a 3d effect for photography in a video     Some folks have been asking about the cool technique used to animate the still photography for the video we made about the 20th anniversary of our photography services… This 3d type of effect is known as  ‘Kid in the Picture’ and was first extensively used in the 2002 film adaptation of Robert Evans’ book ‘The Kid Stays In The Picture’. Producing the effect from still photographs is labour intensive and involves breaking an picture down into layers, filling in the background manually and then using the different layers to animate the image. (It’s around…

Grabbing a portrait opportunity…

It’s been a while since I blogged about any still photography projects, but with the launch of our new Photography website last week, I should be producing more of these from now on! And quiet a bit has been happening photography wise over the past year that I haven’t talked about… The first little project I would like to talk about revisits a continuing portrait theme,  and also the last photography blog I wrote about the 35mm lens being the “God Lens”.. Never pass up the opportunity to make a great portrait.  It doesn’t need to be complex with fancy lighting,…

Lift Off for our new corporate photography website!

Today see’s the launch of the new Page One Photography website! We are all pretty excited as we launched the sister video site in the middle of last year,  and as those who have done these things know… it all take’s more time than you would think! It also marks the 20th year of our trading for Page One!   In 1996 we set up the company in West Bridgford,  providing photography for editorial and commercial use on a national basis,  and now 20 years later we are in our new studios,  with a growing list of blue chip clients for both still…

Our photography and video highlights of 2015!

Every January we like to have a look back at our personal photography highlights of the past year. The really big highlight for all of us in 2015 was that on January 1st, we opened our shiny new (to us!) photographic studio near the City Hospital in Nottingham! We started off putting the new studio to use with commercial photography and video production work, and we continued throughout the year on projects ranging from filming new karaoke equipment,  to a commercial shoot by Dave photographing dogs for a pet food company! (Watch the BTS video below of that one….) But for both Dave and myself, the photographic highlights…

Back in the saddle again…..

Monday, January 4th. Its’ a bit early in the year to be starting work isn’t it?   Shouldn’t we all be off until at least the 11th? Sat here in my hoodie and scarf waiting for the studio to warm up,  I certainly think so. But hey ho!   Lots to do!    So,  we are back.   I’ve started work with a smile (got that out of the way early)  and am cracking on! Lots of things happening this year,  and we are gonna be firing off a few quick missives over the next couple of days….  Did you know…
